This October Southern Midcoast Communities for Prevention seized a great opportunity to promote safe ways to dispose of unwanted or unused medications to a vital and growing population throughout Maine’s mid-coast at the 2019 People Plus Seniors Expo.
Last week, attendees were welcomed to learn more about local resources that are helpful while cleaning out their medicine cabinets including medication take-back days and the Big Green Box initiative. Last April, approximately 30,000 pounds of medications were collected during a nationwide drug take back day in Maine, the second highest in New England.[1]
On Saturday, October 26th Southern Midcoast Communities for Prevention is collaborating with local law enforcement for a Medication Collection Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. residents are encouraged to bring unused, unwanted, or outdated pills, ointments, and drops to a local community collection point. Medications received by prescription, over-the-counter, or through a veterinarian are all welcome.
Being part of a national medication collection day is a safe and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs while also being convenient for residents.
Community Collection points:

*Please no needles, thermometers, or liquids of any kind.
